A Qualitative Study of an Art Therapy Experience for Young Women in Post-adolescence

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to use the narrative inquiry methodology to better understand the experience of -young women in their post-adolescence by participating in art therapy graduate school lectures. The study comprised a total of 6 female participants, who were able to explore the meanings of their personal concerns and life by better understanding the adolescent nature of the middle phase of their 20s to the early phase of their 30s. The conclusions were as follows: First, through the artwork of the participants in research, they were able to begin perceiving the original shape of the selves they had lost. They were able to do this because, by confronting this anxiety and discomfort while graduate school students, they will be able to have greater independence in the future. Second, through the artwork they produced during the art therapy sessions, the positive and negative elements of their could be discerned and developed more clearly, in all their variety. In addition, their desires, which had remained hidden been unknown were exposed, enabling them to have a deeper insight into their inner world, through this process, they were able to embrace all shapes of themselves. Finally, this exercise demonstrates, that, although the process of becoming more self awareness is not easy, there is clearly no end to the process and experience with it must continue. In addition, implications and limitations of this paper were also discussed.
